CHEMISTRY (general and bioorganic chemistry)

In the system of higher medical education, chemistry ranks important as a general scientific discipline. The chemistry course is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills for subsequent basic and specialized disciplines, as well as for practical activities. It includes the study of such sections that are the theoretical basis for a more complete and in-depth study of biochemistry, pharmacognosy, pharmacology, as well as many physical and chemical research methods used in medicine.

Diseases of the body are considered from the point of view of disturbances in  molecular interactions, changes in the composition and structure of molecules. To perceive the most complex biochemical interactions in organs, tissues, cells, it is first necessary to understand the general theoretical foundations of chemistry. Fundamental at this point are the electronic structure of the carbon atom, consideration of the mechanisms of chemical bonding formation, the mutual influence of atoms in organic molecules, the structure and properties of some heterocyclic and heterofunctional compounds that play an important role in a living organism. Besides, the emergence of such areas in science as molecular biology, quantum biochemistry, molecular genetics, biophysical chemistry, which are the theoretical basis of modern medicine, requires solid knowledge of theories of the structure of the atom and molecules, chemical bonds, the mechanism and kinetics of chemical reactions, catalysis, chemical thermodynamics, which is also reflected in the training program for medical students.
